Graphic design pricing is by the job. Hourly rates for something as subjective as graphic or web design are vague at best and in the end tend to favor the agency. I may nail your logo design in a half an hour (not likely, but possible) but there’s 30+ years of logo design behind that half hour. You’re paying for sum total of that experience and expertise.
Having worked in agencies large and small before starting Hammerhead Design, one of my principle motivations in starting the company was to provide efficient workflows that large agencies could not (or would not ) implement. I assure you the pricing you’ll get is an incredible value. Design projects usually include at least two layouts of your project and one rounds of revisions.
Website design pricing is based on content and how much you are able to provide in the way of visuals, text, etc. One of the most time consuming parts of website design is creating intuitive structure and assessing user experience. If you have a good idea of how you want your site to flow, it cuts the time down considerably. If your ideas about how the site should flow are terrible and I have to convince you the allow me to be your benevolent dictator… things can get expensive. Fortunately that almost never happens.
Consultation is billed at $75 per hour. This might include an audit of your current marketing materials, current website design review, website restructuring consultation, or a simple navigation rethink. This is money well spent and should be budgeted into every project. A huge part of my business, and what I think sets Hammerhead apart, is determining exactly where you currently are from a marketing perspective. It’s important to see what’s working and what’s not. Hammerhead is about efficiency. Creating new marketing strategies that do not take into account existing ones is a waste of time and money.
I understand. Budgets are rarely flexible and it’s a waste of your time and mine if we don’t at least start in the same ballpark.
Based on past experience, logos usually start at around $500 which includes business card, letterhead, business envelope design. Small brochures, postcard mailers, posters, and the like start around $250. Most website designs end up being about $150 per page of static content.
It takes time to process your information and explore a range of design options. Most single, small jobs move through the design phase within 5-7 business days. If you need something quicker, we work later. Back in olden times, when newspapers were printed everyday, we turned a lot of ads around in a 24 hour cycle. Our experience is our greatest asset when deadlines are looming. I’ve pulled some mighty big rabbits out of some teeny tiny hats. I can almost always accommodate your rush job depending on the current production schedule however, a rush fee may be added.
No. And if someone says they can, they’re lying. Search engine optimization is not the black art many perceive it to be, but neither is it a simple set of easy to follow instructions. As search services like Google, Bing and Yahoo become more sophisticated, the algorithms they use become vastly more complicated. However, there are common sense best practices that need to be considered at the foundation of your web presence. Content is king, and relevant, well-organized sites rank better than those who try to scheme their way up the organic ranking ladder. Taking time to plan the structure of your site, engaging in relevant keyword research and implementation, and proper coding practices will help ensure that search engines are able to access and understand your site content. If your business relies heavily on organic search result rankings, we have a number of resources available to partner with you or we can work with your SEO company to ensure positive website recognition.

We will meet at your place of business. It’s important that I see your working environment and get a feel for what you want to communicate with your logo. Branding is about image and it’s important for me to know the image you want to put forth to your customer base. During that initial logo design and discussion meeting, we will talk about your business in general, discuss your target market, your goals, and purposes for which you’ll be using your logo.
If there are logo designs from other companies that you like or dislike, it’s good to share those. This can help me determine your personal tastes and gives me an idea of who you identify with. After the initial discussion we slip away and do secret designer stuff. After 7-10 business days we’ll present you with 2-4 concepts for your logo or branding package. These usually include something that is EXACTLY what you’ve asked for, something that is totally what I think you should use, and something in between the two. In 30+ years, I've never presented at least one design that was not moving in the right direction. After a couple of rounds of revisions, we’re usually ready to proceed to application layouts such as business card, letterhead, business envelope, etc.

If you're asking this quesiton, the answer may be no. If you or your company have no budget for branding and marketing materials, or if you're content with your current position in the marketplace, don't waste your time. If you don't take your comany image seriously, neither will your customers. Marketing of your self, your company and your products and services is something that needs to be considered carefully. Rarely is one quick postcard mailier going to transform your business. Your branding and marketing materials are the first point of contact with potential customers and it's important that your communication materials convey the right message. Successful marketing strategies and company image are built over time. Using a professional designer will allow you to create more successful marketing materials in less time and with a significantly reduced margin of error. Nine times out of ten, producing your own communication materials will make your company appear amateurish, meaning the loss of potential customers. I've been in the design, print media, photography and printing fields for over 30 years. Putting that kind of experience to work for you will save you money in the long run and produce stronger marketing.
